Huntington Gardens fun with the Bramlets

We had a great time at Huntington Gardens on Saturday (yes we went to Huntington Gardens twice this weekend) with the Bramlets. They have two kids, Odessa who is almost exactly one year older than Jac and Dyson who is 9.5 months. They are a great family and Odessa is great fun! Jac had a great time running around with Odessa and chasing her! He learned her name pretty quickly and was frequently chasing her calling, "Dessa!" Too cute for words!

Bam Bam

When Nicie is wearing a sleeveless suit he likes to stick one of his arms through the neck hole. I usually manage to keep him from doing it but this morning he did it and so ended up wearing a nice off-the-shoulder look.

Daddy said he looked like "Bam Bam" from Flintstones and I would have to agree! With his propensity for throwing, running and hitting it seems an apt nickname at times!

Socks

Jac has Thomas the Train socks that go all the way up to his knees. Joseph says he looks "cute but dorky" when we put them on him with his shortalls. I say more cute than dorky!

Sorry for no pics or movies

My Mac has been in the shop (along with us being sick and other life events) and so I haven't posted any pics or vidoes for a bit. My Mac should be back today and so I will get a bunch up but here is a cute one of Nicie!

Jac: Explorer Baby

Jac is becoming a real Explorer Baby! He is crawling all over the house and trying out all sorts of things! Unfortunately, all of them are not good. Yesterday, Daddy put him down on the bed while he was getting dressed, something he has done a thousand times without incident. This time, Jac took off and launched himself off of the bed. Daddy got his shirt over his head to find Jac on his back on the floor, screaming. I heard Jac crying really hard and came running, with Nic in tow. My poor little baby. He recovered fairly quickly but, oh man were Joseph and I both a little freaked out. We are hoping that Jac learned from that experience and won't do it again but there is no way to know.

Today he was exploring the rest of the house and crawling all around. I was doing chores around the house and checking on him to make sure he was okay. I am trying to give him space to explore while still making sure that he is safe - and sometimes I am surprised what by what he can do in 30 seconds! The picture above is what I found (he had never done this before!). I had to help him down off the box, he couldn't figure out how to reach the floor!

Nic: Easy baby

Nic is an easy baby! He sleeps a lot, nurses a lot and poops and pees a lot. Hs is very sweet when he is awake. He likes to be swaddled and we keep him that way most of the time. I have found that he nurses well during the day swaddled but at night I have to unwrap him a bit to get him to wake up enough to eat well.

I have also taken to try to keep him up for several hours before we go to bed so he eats a lot and is tired out a bit so he will sleep longer. It worked last night - I got to sleep for one 2 hour period and one 3 hour period.

The funny thing is that he sleeps through anything! during the day. We took the boys and Grandma Toni out to breaskfast this morning and to Sam's Club and after nursing he slept all the way through Sam's Club in his car seat in a shopping cart! I am not used to this newborn sleep through anything stage as Jac was in the hospital during this early part of his life and when he came home he did not really ever sleep well in teh car seat or out in public! I have to say it is pretty cool!

As I mentioned in a previous post Nic has been nursing well and regained his birth weight in 9 days! It is a real joy to be able to nurse Nic but it has brought back some feelings of grief over not having a breastfeeding relationship with Jac.

Nic sleeping in his car seat

Grandma, Joseph, Jac, Nic and I went out to breakfast at the Old Pancake House in Boulder this morning. Joseph and I have been taking Jac there for a long time and it was nice to go with Grandma and Nic also. Nic does quite well in his car seat and so I took a nice close up picture of him. The older Nic gets (in days!) the more he looks like Jac. When he was first born he was a dead ringer for his Daddy but as his eyes open up a bit more he is looking more and more like Jac!

So cute with socks and shoes

Jac still does not really wear socks and shoes very often but now that he is starting to move more we are trying to get him used to it. Last weekend we took him to the mall wearing socks and shoes and he was really too cute for words! He looks so grown up!

Jac sleeping on Daddy at the mall

Yesterday we took Jac to the Cherry Creek mall. It is a very nice mall in Denver and it is fun to take Jac there. We did some shopping for Momma and spent some time wandering around. After all of the shopping little Jacie fell sound asleep on Daddy!

Sleeping with his behind in the air

Jac is now consistently able to pull his knees underneath him when he is sleeping (he could do this before be could roll but not very well).

Now that he can, Jac sleeps on his stomach. He has been doing that since he learned to roll over. When he was in LA he would roll over on the floor after eating, and fall asleep!

Back here in Boulder, he is sleeping on his stomach, with his behind in the air! He alternates between knees under and knees down.

Update on 17 week Ultrasound for No. 2

Okay - we are in fact alive. Mostly. I am sorry it has been so long since I have updated the blog. Since we got back from LA we have been so sick and not sleeping etc. that I have not had the time or the energy to post!

Last Friday we had an ultrasound of No. 2. My new OB is following No. 2 very closely - ultrasounds every 2 weeks. I was very nervous about the ultrasound because this would be the first time that we would be able to see if No. 2 is growing properly. I am still pretty skinny and I am just barely showing so it is hard to see from the outside that a still very small baby (~150 grams) is growing well!

No. 2 was moving all around during the ultrasound - always a good sign - and he is reading LARGE for dates. About a week large! Oh man! I felt so relieved when Dr. P said that! So at least for now things are going well. I know very well that things can change though.

My next ultrasound is my Systems Ultrasound on May. 19 - which is generally considered the first time we can really see whether No. 2 is growing well. We should also be able to see all of "his" organs and check that they all look good. Grow, baby, grow!

Still Alive

Sorry it's been a while since we had any blog postings.

Taj and Jac came down hard with colds, and they were absolutely miserable all last week.

Jac had a few days of fevers which worried us, and made him awfully unhappy. The poor thing often had a woeful exhausted look. :( Moreover, he started gagging on his snot, causing him to throw up frequently. We had concerns about him getting dehydrated -- he peed much less than usual.

It seems like Jac was getting better over this weekend, but he still has a fever, and he is still having lots of snot (and throwing up).

Taj was pretty much knocked out during the peak of her cold -- she still has it; but the good news is that she's clearly over the worst part.

Right now, I've got the coughs, sore throat, head aches, and body aches. This is not fun.

Boy, the three of us are doing Kimberly Clark proud right now...

Jac and Daddy at Real D

Sometimes I take Jac to visit Daddy at work. They look so cute together! I don't know how much you can tell in the picture but Jac has started to get cheeks. He is now 9.4 pounds (as of yesterday) and his face is getting rounder. The more round it gets, the more he looks like his Daddy!
